Alabama Veterans’ Museum Hires a Director
Athens (April 14,
2009) - Sandra (Sandy) Thompson has been hired by the Board of
Directors of the Alabama Veterans’ Museum as its first director.
Mrs. Thompson is a
retired Air Force Master Sergeant with over twenty years of service.
The new director has a B.S. degree in Management/Human Resources and
a Masters degree in Human Services.
Mrs. Thompson was
selected from a pool of thirty-five applicants. The Selection
Committee interviewed eight applicants and called back four of the
initial eight for a second interview. After careful evaluation of
the four applicants, the Selection Committee chose Mrs. Thompson as
the person to lead the museum into the future.
Mrs. Thompson’s name was submitted to the Board of Directors for
approval to be hired as the new director on 04/14/09.
Jerry Crabtree, President
of the Museum’s Board of Directors, stated Mrs. Thompson was
selected because of her extraordinary qualifications and ability to
provide leadership for the museum which will enhance the overall
operation of the museum.
Mrs. Thompson’s duties
will focus on community relations and fundraising along with seeing
after the day to day operation of the museum according to Crabtree.
