The Board members
of the Alabama Veterans Museum voted for their 2011
Executive Board in January. The Executive Board President
will remain as Jerry Crabtree, Vice President this year is
Aubrey Privett, Treasurer is Linda Watson, and Recording
Secretary is Teresa Todd. Also photographed (far right) is
the Museum's Director Sandy Thompson.
The Alabama
Veterans Museum and Archives opened its doors in 2000 with a
few primitive displays and much renovation work still to be
done. The Grand Opening and Dedication service was on Nov.
10, 2002. The guest speaker was Johnny Spann of Winfield,
Ala., father of Mike Spann, the first American killed in
Afghanistan in the wake of the terrorist attack on America.
One week later, Ken David lost his battle with cancer.
The Alabama Veterans Museum celebrates the accomplishments
and sacrifices of the local service person and their family
on the home front. We welcome visitors at no charge but do
cheerfully accept donations. Veterans who volunteer guide
our visitors and tell of the various displays. The Museum is
located at 100 Pryor Street in Athens AL. across from the
Limestone County Event Center.
